First Round- The Western Championship

Today was a good day for golf and a great day for weather in Kamloops as we started the first round of The Western Championship. The course is in good shape and is playing easy, with soft greens and fast fairways. I was very excited to turn in my first professional round with no bogeys and with 4 birdies on the day 68 was a good first day score. It would seem a little better if I wasn't 5 shots back of the leader who turned in a great round of 63 but overall a great day. Another good round tomorrow should put me in a good spot to have a great weekend. Wish me luck!

Times Recap/ Western Championship Kickoff

Last week I played in the Times Colonist Island Savings Open and had a great week. I started off the tournament by turning in a disappointing  4 over 74 first round before coming back on Friday (my dads Birthday, and caddy for the week) delivering a 67 to him for his birthday and making the cut by two. Heading into the weekend I was looking forward to continuing my good play and attempt to go for my highest finish of my professional career. A 1 over round Saturday essentially kept me in the same spot but a 1 under round the last day moved me up almost ten places to finish in a tie for 31st. I was so happy to have my dad on the bag for the week it was a lot of fun. I know that no one had a caddy that tried harder than mine. I also was excited to see my girlfriend Alyssa show up about 10 min before my Tee time to watch me play. I really appreciate her coming to watch, after a 4am wake up a ferry ride and a red bull or two she was there sporting her new camera and took amazing photos of a great sunny day in Victoria.

Finishing the event I was excited to go home and relax after a long week. Unfortunately I was back home in the states for about 18 hours before leaving for the Western Championship in Kamloops, B.C.

I was very unexcited about leaving at 3 o-clock because the Canucks were on at 5 so I stopped along the way to watch two embarrassing periods of hockey, at least i think that's what they were trying to play. I finally made it to Kamloops found the hotel, and it turns out that the hotel is actually the university dorm. Feels like college all over again, pretty funny that its one of two official hotels for the tournament. Played a practice round Tuesday but by the 13th hole lightning had set in on the course and we had to stop playing and with the course being closed for a pro am I would have to wait and see the rest of the course on Wednesday. Today it was great to finish playing the course and I cant wait to start the event tomorrow. Its going to be a great week and I will update again after each round. Wish me luck this week!

Sun Setting In Mexico

Finally back home I have reflected on what happened and the general experience I had in Mexico and all I can say is, "What a great first event!".
I shot scores of 71,74,74,71 and finished 2 over good for a tie for 49th. I set out this week with some goals and although I did not achieve the all the goals I had set overall it was a complete success. I set out to have fun, make the cut, win the tournament, not get a sun burn and enjoy Mexico. I did all but win the tournament, but i tried really hard opening my first nine the first day with a 5 under 31 before some back nine woes found myself carding a 71. I believe I belong out there and I cant wait to play again. I traveled with two of my good friends Kevin Tucker and Brady Bagio. We all stayed in an amazing condo that was donated by a resident who lives there over the winter. The beach was right out our back door and the golf course was right out our front door. After both my friends missed the cut I felt bad but they were very happy for me. Kevin came out to caddy for me the last two days which I really appreciated, we made a good team. I met a lot of good people, eat a lot of good food and played a great golf course. Cant wait for Vancouver when I tee it up again!

First Professional Event

I am currently down in beautiful and sunny Mazatlan, Mexico Playing in the Mexican PGA Championship. I have been here since Sunday and I have been having a great time and my practice rounds went really well. The first round was Thursday and I opened my first nine with a 5 under 31 but a bogey and an unfortunate triple on the back led me to a -1 under 71. Going in to today's round i was excited and ready to play well. I found myself 1 over on the first nine and heading into the next nine I was confident considering I had shot 31 on that side the previous day. I was playing ok but birdie putts were no finding the hole. I failed to get up and down on the 17th and made a good par on the final hole to make the cut on the number. It was a very exciting day and one of many firsts. Making my first cut is something i am very proud of and cant wait to make my way up the leaderboard on the weekend. Wish me luck and follow me on www.cantour.com
Tomorrow i tee off at 10:30 and it should be another great day!
